Frozen Training

From winter wonderland to blizzard white-out, spending time in the frozen North can be either magical or miserable. It is a beautiful environment that can be incredibly comfortable, but has narrow margins for error, where the smallest mistake can be very costly. The aim of this set of courses will make you extremely competent in the zeros – from snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, to driving snowmobiles, mushing with dogs and building snow shelters; you will acquire the skills in planning, preparation, ice reading and snow-craft to travel safely in the frozen North and in sub-Arctic conditions.

You will learn how to plan, prepare and execute an expedition in frozen winter boreal or Arctic conditions. Starting in the Lakes you will begin with expedition, bushcraft and medical skills training for ‘below the tree-line’ taiga and snow-forest conditions, followed by a module in the Scottish Highlands looking at essential winter hill skills from avalanche awareness to snow holes. Module three is an unsupported snowshoe expedition into the wilderness of the Maine North Woods. The final phase is a bespoke course in Sweden on winter skills, learning how to travel with dogs, skis and snowmobiles. This is the most comprehensive package of sub-zero expedition skills training anywhere!
